“Object 00” is purposely confusing. It does not try to solve anything; in fact, it is most likely problematic. It is weird. It does not fall into any category. Sometimes, it is a shelf for things, curios, and maybe books and magazines. It houses small obsessions of our present times. Sometimes, it only shelters its Dracaena, which grows without asking permission, expands, and plays in complete disregard of those objects of human admiration and fetishism. Sometimes, it is a lamp. Sometimes, it is all of the above. The designers, Buffet, are satisfied that “Object 00” is indefinable, incomplete, and that it fails again and again to go through the filters of “good design.” They aim instead for the object to be peculiar, strange, and non-referential. And, more than anything, insecure in its proposal.
