Though typically infused with religious and cultural affiliations, Mimi Jung’s modern interpretation of a tea house focuses on the power of solace and introspection. By manipulating the tea house’s semi-permeable revolving walls, subjects can step into the house’s hidden, isolated interior. The need to physically push and pull the house’s concentric walls highlights the tension between internal and external experience. Inside Jung’s shifting structure, there is a glass table inviting the subject to sit for a moment in solitude and create a ritual of its own.
