The origin of this work goes back to 1989, when, as part of his graduation project, Richard Hutten launched the first of his “no–sign–of–design” furniture pieces. Reacting against the decorative projects prevailing at that time, Hutten was responsible for reintroducing the archetype in design discourse. The series was developed further in the ’90s and 2000s in a new collection that Hutten called “Things.” This latest exploration, of which “NY Thing” is part, proposes new, ambiguous, undefined typologies, with endless possibilities discovered only through use and experience.
